STEP Cryogenics Engagement Workshop

STEP Cryogenics Engagement Workshop

STEP (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production) is an ambitious project aiming to deliver a prototype fusion energy plant by 2040 and a path to commercial viability of fusion. The UK Atomic Energy Authority is organizing a one-day hybrid workshop on the STEP program with the goal of involving the larger cryogenics community in both the program and the building of a cryogenic infrastructure roadmap.

With fusion power plants requiring a range of cryogenic cooling from 80 K to 4 K, the goal is to introduce the STEP program to the cryogenics community, demonstrate the need for the program for future energy production and outline the cryogenic refrigeration challenges.

The morning session will include a number of presentations, while the afternoon will be open for discussion of the roadmap and longer term engagement possibilities. Participation is possible either in person or online.

More event details are available on the STEP flyer.
