European Conference on Superconductivity 2017

EUCAS 2017 will be held 17-21 September 2017 in the International Conference Centre of Geneva (CICG), hosted by CERN in collaboration with the University of Geneva and EPFL-SPC.

EUCAS is a worldwide forum for scientists and engineers, and provides an ideal platform to share knowledge and the most recent advances in all areas of applied superconductivity: from large-scale applications to miniature electronics devices, with a traditional focus on advanced materials and conductors. The broad scope is at the same time a challenge and an opportunity to foster novel, inter-disciplinary approaches and promote cross-fertilization among the various fields of applied superconductivity.

The Scientific Program Committee has taken up this challenge, and is devising a diverse and exciting program. In line with the tradition of conferences on applied superconductivity, and following the successful experience of EUCAS 2015 in Lyon, all papers presented at the conference are eligible for submission to a peer-reviewed special issue of IEEE Transaction on Applied Superconductivity.

We plan to complement the scientific program with an evening outreach event, whose highlight will be the public address of Fabiola Gianotti, CERN Director General.

The conference will be closed by an event of unique flavor, punctuated by historical landmarks of superconducting technology for accelerators, that will take place in the large CERN Superconducting Magnet Test Facility complex, following a visit to some of the most significant CERN installations.

Geneva, located at the foot of the Alps and the Jura, on the banks of Lake Leman, at the border of Switzerland and France, has a long history of diversity and tolerance. It is the well-known seat of several International Organizations (among others the European headquarters of UN, WHO, WTO, UNHCR, ICRC, and CERN). But Geneva is also a unique city of culture, and the perfect home base for exploring wonderful surroundings in Switzerland and France (the Mont Blanc alpine slopes are less than an hour’s drive away). Participants to EUCAS 2017 will be able to find a wide range of hotels suitable for each need.

On behalf of the Local Organizers, the Program Committee, and the many volunteers who are helping to arrange for a world-class conference, we welcome you to Geneva in September 2017.
